The St. Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter was established under the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. mantra of sisterhood, service and scholarship on January 11, 1998.  A group of forty reclaimed and five active Sorors committed to calling themselves to a "higher order" of purpose.

Armed with a rich legacy, they established an African-centered chapter grounded in the spirit of sisterhood, which focuses on leadership development, through the five-point programmatic thrust.   By using creative initiatives they sought to reclaim and retain Sorors in the St. Louis Metropolitan area.  ‘Come Home To Delta and Bring Your Sister With You’ is the mantra of the chapter with emphasis on reclaiming and retaining Sorors rather than Membership Intake.  This vision for the chapter was given to Soror Cora Cade Lemmon. The chapter is organized into seven villages and each village retains a name that embodies the spirit of each of its members.  The chapter villages include:

Alika-Welcome
Akili Novu - Intelligent Strong Female
Pendo - Love
Imani Pendo - Faith and Love
Mkeli Amini Salim - Truthful and Peaceful
Sala Amani - Prayerful Peace
Abdual Imani - Servant of Faith

Each village consists of the collective energy of at least one Elder (an appointed Delta Dear), a Nexter (twenty-something Soror) and a DaraJa (Soror that bridges the gap) to assure an intergenerational chapter where each member’s value is affirmed and no one is left out.  Each committee in the chapter also attempts to maintain this same balance. The St. Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. members are about fostering sisterhood, while providing service to the community.

As a local chapter of DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC., a nationally recognized public service organization with more than 200,000 members world wide who are inspired by a commitment to social consciousness and public service the St. Louis Metropolitan Chapter focused its program involvement in issues affecting the community wellness.

This chapter was established and principled upon educational excellence, public service and leadership development. The chapter provides an extensive array of public services aimed at a five point programmatic thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter activities have involved Delta members as volunteers in direct services, catalysts for community action, recruiters of interagency support, and leaders in networking and partnership building with other organizations.  Since its formation, the chapter has developed a range of programs under our two commissions and five-point programmatic thrust.
