Each village consists of the collective energy of at least
one Elder (an appointed Delta Dear), a Nexter (twenty-something Soror) and a
DaJara (Soror that bridges the gap) to assure an intergenerational chapter
where each member’s value is affirmed and no one is left out. Each committee in the chapter also attempts
to maintain this same balance.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter of Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. members are about fostering sisterhood, while
providing service to the community.
Diversity of membership is another focus of the Chapter. Programs following the National thrust were
planned on an upscale standard utilizing Sorors with a particular skill
assuming the leadership for the implementation of the programs. Others Sorors are afforded an opportunity for
leadership development, personal and professional growth in a safe, supportive
environment. Networking, or being “My
Sisters Keeper” is an integral part of the chapter’s aura. Each member is
called to a higher order and is expected to demonstrate a life of
integrity in the chapter and in the community.
They are reminded to ask themselves daily, “Where would my Sorority
be, if all the members were just like me?”
One of the missions of the Chapter is to restore Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc. and African tradition to its historical place of greatness.
As a local chapter of DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY,
INC., a nationally recognized public service organization with more than
200,000 members world wide who are inspired by a commitment to social
consciousness and public service the St. Louis Metropolitan Chapter focused its
program involvement in issues affecting the community wellness.
This chapter was established and principled upon
educational excellence, public service and leadership development. The chapter
provides an extensive array of public services aimed at a five point
programmatic thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development,
International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and
Political Awareness and Involvement.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter activities
have involved Delta members as volunteers in direct services, catalysts for
community action, recruiters of interagency support, and leaders in networking
and partnership building with other organizations. Since its formation, the chapter has
developed a range of programs under our two commissions and five-point
programmatic thrust.
